Guest speaker Rev. Cheryl Lloyd will be giving a sermon titled "Who Will Love These Children?" Cheryl is a community minister and community organizer affiliated with the First Unitarian Society of Newton. She serves as Volunteer Coordinator for the William Ellery Channing Elementary Partnership. This partnership currently engages approximately 25 volunteers from five different UU congregations as tutors at the Channing School in Hyde Park. The school has 325 students in K-5th grade with 90% children of color, close to 85% funded for the free lunch program, and many children coming from homes with limited English language skills. The goal of the partnership program is to supply support, materials, and encouragement to the school and its students where gaps exist. In this worship service, Cheryl will address the educational inequities that exist by our system of "educating by zip codes" and what it means to be a loving presence for all children. The Theodore Parker Singers will sing a gospel tune by Todd Rundgren, arranged by Michael Johnson.
