SUMMARY:Racial Justice Task Force Film Series: "Birth of a Movement"
DESCRIPTION:Birth of a Movement brings to life Boston’s long history as a center of abolition and a force for racial equality. In 1915\, William Monroe Trotter\, a little remembered leader in the Black radical tradition\, led the struggle to ban D. W. Griffith’s notoriously racist film\, The Birth of a Nation. \nTrotter advocated mass action as a tool for racial justice\, and the protests in Boston set the stage for the modern civil rights movement. \nFeel free to invite friends. Zoom link here. \nThe Zoom theater opens at 5:15 and the film will begin at 5:30\, with a half hour of discussion afterwards. An RSVP to rjtf@tparkerchurch.org is appreciated but not essential. \nSee you at the movies!

Fran\, who is now a grad student in social work at El Salvador’s National University\, will be visiting Boston as part of a national tour sponsored by the Committee in Solidarity with the People of El Salvador. SUMMARY:Annual Meeting of Theodore Parker Church
DESCRIPTION:The TPC Annual Meeting will be held on Sunday\, June 12 at 12 PM. The congregation will consider reports from the various church committees; will review and pass the annual budget for the 2022-2023 fiscal year; will elect officers to serve for the coming fiscal year; and will vote on proposed amendments to the by-laws. \nProposed changes to the by-laws are indicated below in bold. The first change provides a means for individuals to become members when signing the physical Membership Book is not possible (as has been the case at times during the pandemic). The second change acknowledges that the term “Standing Committee” is not in common use and many UU congregations instead refer to that group as the “Board.” \nSection 1Ai. Members of the Church (Members) are defined as persons at least 18 years of age who are in agreement with the purposes of the Church\, who agree to abide by these bylaws and who have signed the Church’s official Membership Book\, or who have provided an electronic signature on an online form established by the Church for circumstances where signing the physical Membership Book is not possible. \nArticle IV Section 3.  Standing Committee\, also called the Board \nThe Standing Committee (The Board) will be comprised of the Executive Committee and at least one (1) and up to five (5) additional members for up to a total of nine (9) members. Members of the Standing Committee (also may be referred to as Members of the Board) shall serve a term of three (3) years. Members of the StandingCommittee shall serve no more than two consecutive terms. Should an elected Member of the Standing Committee be unable to fulfill the entire term\, another Member of the Church may be appointed by the Standing Committee to complete that Member’s duties until the next election.

SUMMARY:Annual Plant Sale
DESCRIPTION:The TPC Plant Sale has been a festive spring tradition for our congregation and our neighbors since 2008. It’s also an important source of revenue. This year\, besides a huge variety of plants donated by church members and friends\, we will have an “Ask the Gardener” table where you can pose your questions to master gardeners. \nHere’s how you can participate:\n\nHelp Jen Buchwald divide and re-pot plants from her garden on Friday\, May 13.\nDig\, divide\, and pot your extra perennials and houseplants for the sale. Please label your plants with their name and color (if applicable).\nDrop off your plants in the breezeway and driveway all day Thursday\, May 26\, and Friday\, May 27 up to 5 p.m.\nVolunteer to help on the day of the sale. Helpers are needed early (7:30 a.m.) to move tables and plants to the front lawn; all day to answer visitors’ questions and staff the cash boxes; and after the event to move the tables and unsold plants back to the breezeway. Jennifer Bottomley is volunteer coordinator.

SUMMARY:RJTF Film Series Presents "Unsettled: Seeking Refuge in America"
DESCRIPTION:Unsettled reveals stories of LGBTQ refugees and asylum seekers who have fled persecution at home and who are resettling in the U.S. Each of these four new arrivals has escaped potential peril in their native countries for being different. They’ve landed in the purported “gay mecca” of San Francisco\, yet even there\, building a new life in an adopted nation is a precarious undertaking. \nPlease invite your friends and share the information with your networks. See the Theodore Parker Church Facebook page for more details. \nThe Zoom theater opens at 6:45 and the film starts at 7\, with a half hour of discussion after. Donations to support future film screenings are welcome but not required. Questions? rjtf@tparkerchurch.org \nSee you at the movies! \nZoom link here.
