SUMMARY:RJTF Film Series Presents "Unsettled: Seeking Refuge in America"
DESCRIPTION:Unsettled reveals stories of LGBTQ refugees and asylum seekers who have fled persecution at home and who are resettling in the U.S. Each of these four new arrivals has escaped potential peril in their native countries for being different. They’ve landed in the purported “gay mecca” of San Francisco\, yet even there\, building a new life in an adopted nation is a precarious undertaking. \nPlease invite your friends and share the information with your networks. See the Theodore Parker Church Facebook page for more details. \nThe Zoom theater opens at 6:45 and the film starts at 7\, with a half hour of discussion after. Donations to support future film screenings are welcome but not required. Questions? rjtf@tparkerchurch.org \nSee you at the movies! \nZoom link here.

DESCRIPTION:After the success of the Church Sing on October 3\, we are doing it again! All are invited to gather outside the church to sing some of our favorite hymns led by music director Michael Johnson on Sunday\, November 7 at 2 p.m. The UUA is still advising congregations not to sing indoors\, but singing together outside in the fresh air — masked and at a safe distance — is extremely low-risk. We will sing some of our most beloved songs from our two hymnals. Please bring a mask and water. In case of inclement weather\, we will reschedule and announce the cancellation on the website and TPC Talk. RSVP to Michael if you plan to attend.

SUMMARY:Harvest Contra Dance
DESCRIPTION:Come one\, come all\, for a lively night of music and dancing at “Flowers of Autumn\,” our Harvest Contra Dance\, Saturday\, November 9\, 7 to 9 p.m. in the parish hall. Erica Weiss\, caller for our Spring Contra\, will return for this event and will teach each dance. Live music will be joyfully supplied by the TPC folk band.\n\nContra dancing is a lively and fun tradition\, strong in New England since Colonial times. Typically danced to live\, fiddle-based music\, the tunes draw from English\, Celtic\, Appalachian\, and French-Canadian styles. Dancers form pair of lines\, facing (contra) one another\, with the lines moving opposite one another as the dance progresses. A caller first teaches the steps of each dance\, and then calls the steps as the music plays. The contra community is friendly and inclusive\, and the dances themselves make a natural mixer suitable for all ages and abilities — no partner required\, come as you are! You can see what this looks (and sounds) like from a recent Boston Intergenerational Dance Association Contra-party by clicking here.\n\nAdmission is free\, but donations are gladly accepted and help to defray the costs for the event — a $10 donation would be most welcome For more information\, email Robin Colgrove.
