SUMMARY:Music on Centre presents Danielle Miraglia and Rupert Wates
DESCRIPTION:Skillfully mixing blues and Americana\, Danielle Miraglia comes armed with a strong steady thumb on an old Gibson\, an infectious stomp-box rhythm\, harmonica\, and tunes ranging from heartfelt to socially conscious. She started out as a blues picker\, then a rocking electric guitar player in a band\, and now focusing on solo acts that highlight both her instrumental and vocal skills and her musical storytelling. \n“Straddling the line where folk/roots meets rock/blues\, Miraglia has a voice that can go from a raspy come-hither purr to an Etta James-esque powerhouse belt\, although she may be best known for her lead thumb — a heavy\, thumping strike on her Gibson that’s backdrop percussion in itself.” Lauren Daley\, The Boston Globe \n“Danielle Miraglia is like a musical butterfly who’s been granted many metamorphoses.”  www.daniellem.com \nRupert Wates is a London-born\, award-winning songwriter now living in the US who has released eleven albums with his haunting melodic brand of acoustic art-folk\, earning airplay across the U.S.\, Canada\, Europe\, Israel\, and Australia. In the U.S. he started winning awards in 2018\, first the New Folk artist at Kerrville Festival and later at national Folk Alliance conferences\, totaling about 50 awards so far. His songwriting\, which features stories of the true lives of everyday people and his own personal perspective\, is enhanced by his haunting melodic vocal style and down to earth stage presence.         www.rupertwatesmusic.com \nAdmission $25\, $15 for under age 21. SUMMARY:Music on Centre presents Samodivi
DESCRIPTION:The music of Samodivi is inspired by the beauty and rhythmical intricacies of the Balkan musical traditions. The repertoire includes modern interpretations of old folk songs from the Balkan peninsula\, as well as original compositions using that style as an inspiration. The Balkan region has a tumultuous history\, often riddled by war and mistrust among the countries that share it\, but the music that came from the people who live there clearly shows a familial bond and a shared culture dating back to antiquity. \nIn today’s divisive political and cultural climate\, it is more important than ever to use the powerful tool of music as a way to overcome differences\, embrace our human commonalities\, and celebrate our cultural heritage free of dogma\, judgement\, political agenda\, or short term financial interests. This is exactly what Samodivi represents through our long form pieces\, rich cultural diversity both in personnel and repertoire\, and our deep respect for the authenticity of the musical traditions that inspire us\, combined with a fearless drive to innovate\, discover\, and connect. \nSamodivi: the music of the Balkans\ndirected by Vessela Stoyanova (electric Marimba)\nfeaturing:\nHeiraza (formerly Burcu Gulec) on vocals\nBrian Urra on violin\nTony Leva on bass\nBen Fig on drums\n\n\n\nADMISSION: $25 for adults; $15 for 21 and under. \n\nReserve your tickets at musiconcentre@gmail.com or purchase at the door from 7:00 pm on the evening of the show. Featured are Rob Flax on the violin\, Dean Stevens on the guitar\, Eric Kilburn on the mandolin\, and Max Ridley on the bass. The choice of the mostly original songs they sing is always surprising and always fun. Spend your Thanksgiving weekend with us; you will be glad you did. \nDean is an exuberant performer of distinctive style and wit\, who combines an intricate\, self-taught guitar style with a versatile and expressive singing voice. His six albums explore a variety of personal and social topics\, paints sketches of people and places\, celebrates the Earth\, and annoys the narrow minded. \n“Seeing and hearing Dean Stevens live on stage is proof that sanity\, literacy\, love\, hope\, and the forces of good are still alive and well and at work in the universe. Losing your faith? Go to a Dean Stevens concert!” ~ Geoff Bartley \nRob Flax is an award-winning multi-instrumentalist\, composer\, and educator with a playful heart and an open mind who has performed nationally and internationally with groups of many different styles ( rock\, blues\, classical\, bluegrass) while masterfully playing different instruments ( violin\, viola\, mandolin\, upright bass) .  His favorite composer is Fred Rogers\, and like Mister Rogers Rob strives to create a better world using his musical gifts to spread light and joy. \nA major presence in the Boston folk scene since the 1980’s\, Eric Kilburn has released acclaimed albums for over seven years\, had songs covered by Arlo Guthrie and Pete Seeger\, and is also known for his recording studio where some of the greats\, such as Catie Curtis\, Martin Sexton\, Crooked Still and Robbie O’Connell\, have made their albums. \nMax Ridley is a citizen of the world and shares his many talents on the upright bass in various jazz\, rock and folk combos\, including the Boom Chick trio which wowed the audience here at Music on Centre in December\, 2023. He is a graduate of Berklee College of Music and teaches there as well as at several other music schools\, considering his work as a musician and teacher to fall under the larger umbrella of Spiritual Service Industry. \nAdmission – $25 for adults\, $10 for those 21 and under.\n\nReserve seats by emailing musiconcentre@gmail.com    NOTE: There are no advance tickets\, only reservations. Guy uses a blend of roots\, blues\, folk\, rock\, rap\, spoken word\, and world music to comment on\, and address the frustrations of social injustice\, touching on historical events\, and common life struggles. His background in theater is pronounced through the lyrical storytelling of songs “God’s Gonna Make Things Over” about the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre\, “Welcome to My World”\, and “Got Your Letter In My Pocket”. SUMMARY:Music on Centre presents Songs of Justice & Hope
DESCRIPTION:Theodore Parker Church’s Music on Centre concert series closes its season on June 11 with an outstanding double bill featuring nationally known performers Reggie Harris and Cosy Sheridan. \nReggie has spent his career singing about the African American experience and history in concert halls\, churches\, and many different educational programs. One of his most recent endeavors is “Opening Doors: Race\, Conversation and Song\,” created as an educational program and adaptable for all ages. www.reggieharrismusic.com \nCosy Sheridan often takes a more personal and sometimes quirky approach to contemporary issues but is also seriously dedicated to music and to teaching. She is the creator of Camp Moab where she brings people together to hone their musical skills with some of the finest instrumentalists and songwriters in the nation. She used to live in Utah but now has returned to New England. www.cosysheridan.com \nThe concert is free\, with no pre-registration required\, but you are encouraged to donate to the artists during the show. After the hour-long concert\, we will have a chance to talk with the performers and hear a few more songs. This will be as intimate a show as possible during these virtual times. \nJoin on Zoom. \nMeeting ID: 869 5521 4142 \nPasscode: 156140 \nThe concert will also be streamed on Facebook and YouTube. Please pass on this invitation to anyone who would want to participate in this joyous and meaningful event. More information: Carol Allen\, our Music on Centre impresario. \n

SUMMARY:Music on Centre presents Crys Matthews & Heather Mae
DESCRIPTION:Music on Centre invites you to tune in to a lively and inspiring Zoom concert by the amazing Crys Matthews and the incomparable Heather Mae. \nMatthews is a nationally acclaimed singer-songwriter who captured our hearts at the Music on Centre concert in 2018. She blends Americana\, folk\, jazz\, blues\, bluegrass and funk into a bold\, complex performance steeped in traditional melodies and punctuated by honest\, original lyrics. \nUnfazed by what a typical pop artist today is “supposed” to look like and how the typical pop artist is “supposed” to sound\, Heather Mae creates intoxicating music that tackles complex topics surrounding mental health\, LGBTQ+ issues\, self-love\, racial injustice\, social inequality\, and women’s rights. She is a dynamically positive advocate of LGBT+ rights and mental health issues. \nClick here to join on Zoom on May 22 at 7:30.  Suggested donation is $20 per person. Give more if you can\, less if you can’t. All are welcome and no one will be turned away! All donations should be sent to Heather Mae via PayPal (heathermaemusic@gmail.com)\, Venmo (@heathermaemusic)\, or Cashapp ($heathermaemusic)\, with a note that says “May 22nd – Theodore Parker Concert”. If you have trouble signing up and/or paying\, contact musiconcentre@gmail.com.
