SUMMARY:Begin Again: Sharing Experiences of the Holy
DESCRIPTION:Nancy Wilber\, Steve Greene\, and Rev. Anne invite you to the second meeting of Begin Again. In this group\, we share our various experiences of the “Holy\,” however we might view and name that. In this month’s meeting we will “begin again” with our feelings and reactions to God — as images\, experiences\, beliefs\, doubts\, or even the word itself — in relation to our own spirituality. We’ll also be learning to talk with one another more easily about these subjects\, respecting our differences and growing from them.\n\nNewcomers are welcome. Looking ahead\, we’ve scheduled a third meeting for May 21.  If you have questions and/or want to attend\, contact Nancy or Steve. From them you can also get a copy of the poem “Begin Again” by Nancy Shaffer\, from which the group takes its name.

SUMMARY:Contra Dance
DESCRIPTION:Come dance with us! A band of enthusiastic musicians from the TPC community will play for the dance\, and there will be a professional caller who is experienced with teaching contra and folk dance styles. All are welcome\, including newcomers.\n\nContra dancing is a lively and fun tradition\, strong in New England since Colonial times. Typically danced to live\, fiddle-based music\, the tunes draw from English\, Celtic\, Appalachian\, and French-Canadian styles. Dancers form pair of lines\, facing (contra) one another\, with the lines moving opposite one another as the dance progresses. A caller first teaches the steps of each dance\, and then calls the steps as the music plays. The contra community is friendly and inclusive\, and the dances themselves make a natural mixer suitable for all ages and abilities — no partner required\, come as you are!

SUMMARY:Adult Religious Exploration: Begin Again
DESCRIPTION:Have you had experiences that brought you into a space you might call Holy? “Holy” is capitalized to convey how deeply tender and vulnerable these experiences may feel\, and also how they may shine\, feel wondrous\, and widen our sense of reality beyond anything explicable. Some of us may label them with words like Spirit\, Goddess\, or God. Sometimes they feel mystical or like a special communion with something unnamed.\n\nSteve Greene\, Nancy Wilber\, and Rev. Anne hope you will gather with us to share\, listen\, and appreciate one another’s experiences. This is a time to attend deeply\, to listen to what our experiences have to say to us and perhaps gain new meaning from them. In time\, we may invite additional conversation about how we are enriched and sustained by these experiences as well as the language that works for us to draw sustenance from them and connect us with others on our spiritual journeys.\n\nWe will meet in the parlor. If you plan to attend or have any questions\, please contact Steve or Nancy

SUMMARY:Social Action Committee Potluck: Racial Equity in the Boston Public Schools
DESCRIPTION:Your Social Action Committee will sponsor another in its series of Community Potlucks on Friday\, January 11\, at 6:30 p.m. in the parish hall parlor. The purpose of these potlucks is to help build community in our congregation around the “reaching out” aspect of our collective mission\, and to connect it to our efforts to “reach in.”  \nAccess to education is a critical issue for all youth and parents in the city. For those of us convinced of the “inherent worth of every person\,” public support for an effective and equitable education system should be a priority\, regardless of whether we have (or will have) children in the schools. \nOn January 11\, we’ll break bread and create a circle for a facilitated discussion of education as a racial and social justice issue. Bring some food to share if you can. Childcare will be provided — email us by January 7 if you’ll be bringing children to the event.

SUMMARY:Music on Centre: Mustard's Retreat with Marcia Feldman
DESCRIPTION:Mustard’s Retreat had been performing as a duo for about 40 years all across the United States when they became a trio by adding the glorious voice of Libby Glover\, long-time friend and musical collaborator. The duo\, consisting of David Tamulevich and Michael Hough\, has always been known for their skill in combining original witty and whimsical songs with other creations that are insightful and profound. Tamulevich describes their sound as “defiantly hopeful”. \nPlaying different combinations of guitar\, dulcimer\, pennywhistle\, harmonica and vocals\, the trio continues that tradition with perfection. Since the release of the trio’s CD\, called “Make Your Own Luck”\, the group has been receiving even more national attention\, with the CD listed as # 6 in the country on the Folk DJ chart. Two of the songs that are hitting the mark are “Make Your Own Luck\,” a bouncy\, optimistic piece of advice\, and “I’m Gonna Walk It\,” a song by Ellie Grace about the Women’s March. \nAn earlier song\, “Ours is a Simple Faith\,” is often used as an affirmation of peace and justice in places of worship and other organizations. Their songs are appropriate for all ages\, including a funny little ditty called “It’s Got Teeth.” \nThe opening act is Marcia Feldman\, an accomplished guitarist and singer from Westwood. She has produced four recordings; Stand Up\, Believe in Spring\, Hospice Music and Between the Worlds. In addition to her versatile vocal style\, she plays soothing classical guitar music at the bedside for people at the end of life to ease their final days and runs a palliative care program in a retirement village. She also performs in churches and coffeehouses in Massachusetts where she is sought after for her haunting and elegant vocal style. \nTheodore Parker Church Parish Hall\, 1859 Centre Street\, West Roxbury\, MA 02132 \nTickets: $20 for adults; $10 for 21 and under; $40 family maximum \nReservations: musiconcentre@gmail.com or call 617-327-0542 \nDesserts and beverages available before the show and during intermission. \n
