SUMMARY:Discussion: Language of Reverence
DESCRIPTION:How do we describe the signs of wonder and awe that are all around us? We are reminded of Bill Schultz’s thought from the essay\, Unitarian Universalism in a New Key. “For us the Holy is not hidden but shows its face in the blush of the world’s exuberance.” Do we reference exuberant things as “the Holy”? Or speak in terms of blessings? Or sacrament? Or prayer? How do we name what we find meaningful? \nOur two sessions are My 9 and May 23. If you have questions or need more information\, contact Rev. Anne. Join us to explore the language we use to speak of mystery and awe\, of things known or unknown. We will reference a book by the Rev. Jeanne Nieuwejaar called Fluent in Faith (Skinner

SUMMARY:True Stories About Race
DESCRIPTION:Our continuing series in partnership with Temple Hillel B’nai Torah\, “True Stories about Race\,” urges us to share stories that have moved us\, as stories bring about the possibility of reconciliation through the creation of empathy. In a series of monthly sessions\, we seek out\, share\, and listen to true stories of what it means\, or has meant\, to be black or brown in America. The format is a discussion based on stories that have moved us personally\, facilitated by Josh Frank\, a former teacher and administrator in racially diverse school districts and a member of a local synagogue. The series meets on the third Saturday of the month from 4 to 5:15 p.m. in the parlor. The next session is February 17; no RSVP or preparation necessary. If you have questions\, contact Mark Bauer or Josh Frank.

SUMMARY:Film: Hope in a Changing Climate
DESCRIPTION:Brian Cartwright will show a short film\, “Hope in a Changing Climate\,” and lead a discussion about methods of ecological restoration for degraded lands around the world.  \nThe filmmaker is John D. Liu\, who founded a global organization called Ecosystem Restoration Camps.  His vision is to set up camps in locations where volunteers learn by restoring damaged and degraded landscapes to health and productivity. John has been learning and documenting methods for this kind of restoration over the past twenty years in collaboration with governments and environmental organizations. \nThe 25-minute film documents the project that first got him involved in this work. Spearheaded by scientists and the Chinese government\, the farmers and livestock herders of a remote area were mobilized to work on a massive landscape repair project\, motivated by a commitment that they would be the beneficiaries of the results. Those results were miraculous\, and provided John the inspiration to promote ecosystem restorations in Rwanda\, India\, Somalia\, and other locations.  \nThe film can also be seen online at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLdNhZ6kAzo
