September 11, 2011: "Axis Mundi: The Meaning of Towers"

Rev. Lilli Nye leads our ingathering worship, as we bring mementos—small objects or photos—of our summer to place at the altar. On this day full of many meanings, her sermon explores the meaning of towers—our bell tower, the Twin Towers, the tower as a meeting of heaven and earth and a symbol of human aspiration and potentially of hubris. We reflect on what we want our own tower to represent to the world around us, and what "restoration" means as a spiritual and emotional, as well as a physical, process.
